Carl Frederick Holthausen, Jr., 97, of Owingsville, died Monday morning, April 8, 2013 at his residence. He was born on June 14, 1915 in Palisade, New Jersey to the late Carl Frederick Holthausen, Sr. and Florence McClave Holthausen.

Carl graduated from Amherst College and did post graduate work at Woods' Hole Marine Biological Lab, Stevens' Institute of Technology and Wright Aeronautical Corporation. He joined the Navy during World War II and attended Annapolis Naval Academy. Carl served in the Pacific on the Destroyer U.S.S. "Cotton", DD #669 as the C.I.C. Officer. At the completion of the war, he raised a family in New Jersey with his wife, Barbara. He worked in the Holthausen Family Department Store and in later years he was a broker in Commercial Real Estate. Carl and Barbara retired to Florida before moving to Bath County ten years ago.

Carl was a member of Rotary International and the Haworth New Jersey Police Reserves. He enjoyed collecting antiques and decoys, RV's and camping.

Survivors include; one son, Carl "Charlie" Frederick Holthausen III (Gail) of Steamboat Springs, Colorado; two daughters, Jane Hogge of Owingsville and Florence McClave Hittner (Richard) of Closter, New Jersey; six grandchildren, including Jean Hogge of Mt. Sterling, whom he helped raise; and three great grandchildren.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of sixty-six years, Barbara Lee Holthausen; one daughter, Martha Holthausen; one brother, Duncan Holthausen; and one sister, Marguerite Highmark.

Private family memorial service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made in Carl's memory to; St. Claire Hospice, 222 Medical Circle, Morehead, Kentucky, 40351.
