Mrs. Clausen was born October 7, 1923 in Cleveland, Ohio, to John and Mary McDermid of Cape Breton, Nova Scotia. She graduated from Baldwin-Wallace College and received graduate degrees from Roosevelt University and the University of Washington. She worked for many years at Kenai Peninsular Community College in Kenai, Alaska. She was an avid learner and was active in library issues throughout the Pacific Northwest, and participated in community and professional events throughout the State of Alaska.

Survivors include her son, David M. Clausen of Juneau, Alaska; her daughter, Sara J. Clausen (and husband Fr. Michael Petty) of Tallahassee; one grandson, Graham; and numerous cousins.

Mrs. Clausen's family would like to express special appreciation to the staff of Big Bend Hospice, as well as the staff of Cenre Pointe Health & Rehab Center for the care and kindness shown during her illness.
