He is survived by his wife of 42 years, Elaine Batson.

A native of Philadelphia, Mr. Batson moved to Tallahassee from Marathon Key in 1999. He was a corrections officer with the Juvenile Assessment Center in Tallahassee and was a former corrections officer and baliff for the Monroe County Sheriff's Department. Deputy Batson also served as a reserve deputy with the Wakulla County Sheriff's Department and was a veteran of the United States Navy. An accomplished musician, he volunteered his talent twice weekly at the Wakulla Senior Citizens Center in Crawfordville. He and his wife attended Evangel Assembly of God Church and King's Way Christian Church in Tallahssee.

Other survivors include two sons, David E. Batson, Jr. (Christina) and Mason L. Batson; and four grandchildren, David Batson, III, Rbert Batson, Danielle Batson and Rene Batson, all of Tallahassee.
