He is survived by wife of 28 years Mary Ann Cater.

Born and raised in Panama City, Mr. Cater moved to Tallahassee in 1976. He was the delivery and warehouse manager for United Building Products and previously Mays-Munroe. He was an avid NASCAR fan and bass fisherman and was a member of B.A.S.S

Other survivors include his daughter Jennifer Sharp of Panama City; two grandchildren, Shelby and Megan Sharp of Panama City; two brothers, Tom and Lee Cater, both of Panama City; five sisters, Carol Anne Nichols, Connie Pryor, Bobbie Coffey and Martha Harris all of Panama City and Kay Kirby of Roswell, GA.
