He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Bridget Chandler.

Born May 22, 1925 in Minneapolis, Minnesota, Mr. Chandler moved to Tallahassee with his family at six months of age. He attended Florida High School, and following graduation from Leon High School attended hotel and restaurant school in Washington, D.C. An Army veteran of World War II, he served with distinction throughout the European threater. Upon completion of his service, he returned to Florida and married the love of his life, Bridget McPherson.

As part of a pioneer hotel/motel family who acquired properties in the Pensacola, Daytona Beach and Tallahassee areas, Mr. Chandler and his family carried on the tradition with the Tallahassee Motor Hotel, the Lakeshore Motel and Lake Ella Motor Courts, all located near and around beautiful Lake Ella.

He was a member of Jackson Lodge # 1, F&AM, Marzuq Shrine Center, 40/8, the American Legion and Saint Paul's United Methodist Club. Of his many accomplishments, he was most proud of his membership in the "5 Gallon Club" at Southeastern Community Blood Center.

A wonderful husband and father, in addition to his wife Bridget he is survived by his son Dr. Gilbert S. "Bert" Chandler, III and his wife Debi of Gainesville, GA; his daughter Virginia "Ginny" Chandler Weeks and Bill Rayner of Madison, FL; his grandchildren Jill Kelly Chandler and Gilbert S. "Gib" Chandler, IV of Gainesville, GA; his twin brother Herbert W. Chandler of Tallahassee; and a host of nieces, nephews and wonderful friends he made throughout his rich life.

Mr. Chandler was preceded in death by his parents Gilbert S. Chandler, Sr. and Mabel Irene Brown Chandler; and sisters Norma Marr and Evelyn Norman.

A special thanks to all his caregivers, especially Sandra Harris who cared for him thoughout his illness.

In his life he truly lived by the Golden Rule: "Do unto others as you would have them do unto you."
