Mr. Ball was born July 23, 1919 in Bronwood, Georgia, the second of three sons of James Fred and Myrtice Tyus Ball. He moved to Tallahassee from Decatur, Georgia 10 years ago. He was a graduate of Atlanta Boys High School, North Georgia Junior College in Dalonega and Georgia State University, where he was a member of Alpha Kappa Psi Fraternity and the Alumni Association. He retired after 43 years as a sales executive and member of the Board of Directors of the Ivan Allen Company of Atlanta.
A Lieutinant in the United States Navy during World War II, he saw action in the Gilbert Islands in the South Pacific, and also attended Midshipman's School at Notre Dame University during the war.
Long active in civic and church affairs he was a past member and officer of the Lions Club of Gainesville, Georgia, Decatur Lions Club and the North Decatur Lions Club, as well as being a past member of the Elks Club. Mr. Ball for the past 60 years has been a member of Holy Trinity Episcopal Church in Decatur, and served on the Vestry for many years and twice served as Senior Warden of the church. While a resident of Tallahassee he remained active at St. John's Episcopal Church.
He is survived by his daughter Kitty Camp and her husband Byron of Tallahassee; his son Jack T. Ball, Jr. and his wife Irene of Ann Arbor, Michigan; and two grandchildren, Emmie Camp and Elliott Camp, both of Tallahassee.
Mr. Ball was preceded in death in 2001 by his wife Emily Ball and in June, 2009 by his grandson Dixon Camp.
