Edwinola “Eddie” Jordan Daniels, 92, a long time resident of Havana, Florida, passed away Friday, May 28, 2010. Mrs. Daniels was born in Plant City, Florida, the oldest of Grady and Stella Jordan’s six children. She grew up in Nichols, Florida, a phosphate mining town long since abandoned, until leaving for Florida State College for Women at age 16. She graduated from college in 1939 and moved to Havana, Florida to begin her teaching career. She met the local post master, Howard Daniels, marring him in 1944. Mrs. Daniels taught math and science for 30 years, a tough but fair teacher, her five foot two frame capable of striking fear in the heart of any high school student, her arm capable of bouncing chalk off any head in the back row, she educated generations of Havana High School students, helping anyone who asked, passing anyone who tried.

She was a member of Salem United Methodist Church, serving as financial secretary for 28 years, and she was a charter member of the Havana Garden Club, serving as president. “Miss” Eddie, as she was often called, loved to read even from her earliest years and to bake cakes to share with family, friends, and anyone else she felt might need one.

Mrs. Daniels is survived by her daughter, Dale Croft and husband Buddy of Tallahassee; her son, Doug Daniels of Ormond Beach, FL; her brother Robert Jordan and wife Barbara and sister Jo Ann Dolan of Lakeland, FL; her sister-in-law, Lu Jordon of Niceville, FL; her brother-in-law, William Thornton of Norfolk, VA; five grandchildren, Daniel Croft and wife Meredith of Atlanta, GA; Jonathan Croft of Tallahassee; Samantha, Rebecca and Rosemary Daniels of Ormond Beach, FL; two great-grand-daughters, Caitlin and Ansley Croft; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents, Mrs. Daniels was predeceased by her husband, two brothers, Vernon Jordan and William “Dutch” Jordan, and a sister, Judy Thornton.

The funeral service will be at Salem United Methodist Church in Havana on Tuesday, June 1, at 1:00 PM with internment to follow at Woodland Cemetery. Visitation will be held at Bevis Funeral Home (2710 N. Monroe Street) on Monday, May 31, from 5:00 – 7:00 PM. Memorial contributions may be made to Big Bend Hospice or The Alzheimer’s Project of Tallahassee.
