Lovie was born on June 15, 1918 in Greeensburg, KY to George and Cora Knight Haskins. Lovie gave her life to Christ at a young age when she joined Pleasant Union Baptist Church. In her later years she became a member of First Baptist Church of Lebanon, KY. Lovie worked for many years as a housekeeper and nanny for Elmer George's family and Sam May's family. Lovie enjoyed playing cards, cooking, and having a good time with her family and friends. Miss Lovie, as she was most often referred to, often hosted gatherings at her home and everyone was always welcomed.
Lovie passed away on Tuesday, February 12, 2013. She leaves to cherish her memory, her daughter; Alene West of North Aurora, IL, her three sons; James Thomas Bell of Lebanon, KY, Ronnie Bell of Columbus, OH, and Donnie (Angela) Bell of Nashville, TN, fifteen grandchildren, fourteen great-granchildren, eight great-great-grandchildren, and a host of nieces and nephews, relatives, and friends who will miss her dearly. Additionally, the children of Elmer George and Sam May were a special part of Lovie's life and they too will miss her.
She was preceded in death by her parents, three sisters; Leavy Haskins, Alice Anderson, and Hazel Thompson, two brothers; Joseph and James Haskins, and three daughters; Linda Bell, Arnita Barnett, and Anna Pirela.
Funeral services for Lovie Bell will be conducted at 11:00 AM on Monday, February 18, 2013 at the Campbell-DeWitt Funeral Home with bural following in the Ryder Cemetery. Family requests visitation after 9:00 AM Monday at the funeral home.
