Jessie Matt Claxton of Williamsburg, Kentucky departed this life on Monday, February 20, 2012 at his home. He was 71 years, 4 months, and 3 days of age. He was born on October 17, 1940 in Rockholds, Kentucky to the late Edgar Claxton Sr. and Ethel Powell Claxton. He was a member of the VFW Post 3167 of Williamsburg, Kentucky. He served in the U.S. Army during Vietnam as an E-4 specialist, receiving the Purple Heart among other medals.
He is survived by three children; James Robert Claxton of Elizabethtown, Kentucky, Rhonda Perry (Darrell) of Hazard, Kentucky, and Jessica Kemplin (Jessie) of Batavia, Ohio; six grandchildren; five step grandchildren; two sisters, Patsy Wenderfer of Augusta, Kentucky and Brenda Claxton of Corbin, Kentucky; two brothers, Edgar Claxton Jr. (Cordula) and Terry L. Claxton (Gail), all of Williamsburg, Kentucky; two half-brothers, Ricky Claxton and Randy Claxton, both of Williamsburg, Kentucky; several nieces, and nephews; and a host of other relatives and friends to mourn his passing.
Visitation will be after 6:00 P.M. Wednesday, February 22, 2012 at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel.
The Funeral Service will be at 3:30 P.M. Thursday, February 23, 2012 at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jerry Sester officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Claxton Cemetery on Browns Creek. Military Graveside Honors will be conducted by the American Legion Post #88 of Corbin, Kentucky.
