Pamela Jane Coker, age 60, won her seven year fight with breast cancer and received the reward of eternal life on March 20, 2016.
Her life here on earth began on May 10, 1955. She was the fourth of five children born to Earl and Mary Jane (Williams) Centers of Wolf Creek. She attended Pleasant View School and Whitley County High School before falling for the boy who would become the love of her life. Because the young man had "a good head on his shoulders", her father gave his blessing and on August 2, 1971 the first chapter of the love story of Robert and Pam began. The vows spoken on that day were honored for 44 years. She loved him above all others including herself and he returned her love by remaining steadfastly by her side throughout her fight to live. She raised three children and her life was a reflection of goodness and grace. Though she was meek and humble in spirit, her strength was evident in the way she faced life's trials. The source of that strength was God in whom she put her trust as a little girl. Perhaps her greatest achievement was that she kept her promise to praise him as long as she breathed.
Pam was a member of the "Pleasant View Divas", a tight knit group of friends who work or have worked at Pleasant View Elementary School where Pam was an attendance clerk for 20 years. She planted seeds of Jesus into the hearts of children throughout her 30 years as a Sunday School teacher at Mountain Ash Baptist Church.
Pam is survived by her husband, Robert Coker; two daughters, Sherry Petri and husband Darren of Stafford, VA and Janet Lawson and husband Randy of Hope Mills, NC; son Tim Coker and wife Crystal of Williamsburg; seven grandchildren, Jared, Janae, & Jonah Petri, Nathan & Jacob Lawson, Sadie & Reagan Coker; a brother, Sam Centers; Sisters, Polly King, Donna Slusher, Betty Brock, & Jennifer Graham; Stepmother, Artie Centers; Stepsister, Anna Lawson; eight nieces and six nephews; and a multitude of friends and other relatives who loved her.
She is predeceased by her parents, Earl and Mary Jane Centers; two grandsons, Jonathan Petri and Christopher Coker; and stepbrother, Verlin Perkins.
Visitation will be held on Tuesday, March 22nd from 5pm until 8pm and the funeral will be Wednesday, March 23rd at 2:00 at Mountain Ash Baptist Church with Pastors Billy Carpenter and Lester Cox officiating. She will be laid to rest at the Wolf Creek Cemetery.
