Carl Terry Akins, age 69, of Falls Creek Road, Corbin, Kentucky departed this life on Sunday, August 7, 2016 at his home. He was born on May 2, 1947 in Williamsburg, Kentucky to the late Ernest Earl Akins and Jincy (Bennett) Akins. He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Carla Sue Griffin; brothers, R.L. Akins, Ronald Akins and Edward Akins and wife Joie Akins; sisters, Bernice Akins, Shirley Knight, Edith Watkins and husband Sam Watkins, Anna Mahan and husband Dennis Mahan and Emma Sue Gillis; brother-in-law, Jessie Perkins; sister-in-law, Imogene Perkins; and his father and mother-in-law, Clifford and Viola Perkins. He was a member of Greenland Baptist Church. He served as a deacon at Pennyroyal Baptist Church in Franklin, Ohio and Greenland Baptist Church in Corbin.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara (Perkins) Akins of Corbin; daughter, Teresa Schooley (Vince) of Trenton, Ohio; son, T.J. Akins (Jennifer) of Berea, Kentucky; two grandchildren, Shaydin Griffin of Middletown, Ohio and Jesse Campbell of Trenton, Ohio; two great-grandchildren, J. Cassidy Dukes and Alaysia Davis of Middletown, Ohio; brother, Irvin Akins (Retha) of Corbin; two sisters, Betty Taulbee (Delmar) and Ethel Isaacs (Welmon) of Corbin; brother and sisters-in-laws, Roy Gillis, Barbara (McKiddy) Akins, Frank Perkins (Gail) Walter Brown (Frances) and Gary Knight; and a host of other family and friends to mourn his passing.
Visitation will be from 5:00 P.M. until the funeral hour on Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at Croley Funeral Home.
The Funeral Service will be at 7:00 P.M. Wednesday, August 10, 2016 at the Croley Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Jim Whorton and Rev. Luke Day officiating.
Following Graveside Services at 11:00 A.M. Thursday, August 11, 2016 he will be laid to rest in the Akins Family Cemetery on Bee Creek in Corbin.
