Mr. Leonard Douglas Northern, age 79 of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky passed away on Tuesday, January 25, 2011; at the V.A. Medical Center in Lexington, Kentucky.
Leonard entered into this life on September 6, 1931 in Brodhead, Kentucky the son of William Gravely and Margaret Vaughn Northern, both of whom preceded him in death. On January 23, 1951 Leonard enlisted in the United States Army, where he bravely served his country during the Korean War until he received his honorable discharge on January 23, 1954. He worked for eight years at Lockwood Manufacturing. He was a well driller and a tool and die setter. He was united in marriage to Cora Martin Northern on July 15, 1976 and they shared 34 wonderful years together. Leonard was a member of the Mt. Vernon V.F.W. and will be remembered for his love of poker, bingo, video games, fishing and hunting.
Leonard will be lovingly remembered by his wife: Cora Martin Northern of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky; three children: Kat Price and her husband Lawrence of Ottawa, Kentucky, Douglas Northern and his wife Stephanie of Hondo, Texas, and Alice Wical and her husband Bill of Sabina, Ohio; one stepson: Charles Edward Long of Cincinnati, Ohio; nine grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; and one sister: Lizzie Woodall of Brodhead, Kentucky; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
He is preceded in death by his wife: Hettie Dyer Northern; his son: James Allen Northern; his parents: William Gravely and Margaret Vaughn Northern; two brothers: David and Ray Northern; and three sisters: Louise, Dorothy and Corrine.
Visitation for Mr. Leonard Northern will be held on Thursday, January 27, 2011 at 4:00 P.M. at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals.
