Mr. Gene Sturgill, age 65 of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky passed away Thursday April 21, 2011 at the Rockcastle Health and Rehabilitation Center in Brodhead, Kentucky.
Gene was born in Livingston, Kentucky on November 15, 1945, the son of Benjamin and Alice Pearl Smith Sturgill, both of whom preceded him in death. He was retired from the Robinson Strack Veneer Company. On September 27, 1969 he was united in marriage to Lucy Dunaway Sturgill and they shared 40 wonderful years together. Gene was of the Baptist faith, enjoyed fishing and vintage automobiles.
Gene will be lovingly remembered by his wife: Lucy Dunaway Sturgill of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky; One son: David Gene Sturgill and wife Joann of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin; One daughter: Kimberly Gallagher and husband Ronald of Beaver Dam, Wisconsin; Eight grandchildren; Five brothers: Kenneth Sturgill and wife Dora of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky, Ronnie Sturgill and wife Michele of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky, Gerald Sturgill of Irvine, Kentucky, Michael Sturgill and wife Rhonda of Somerset, Kentucky and Roger Dale Sturgill and wife Teresa of London, Kentucky; Five sisters: Bernice Harbinson of Corbin, Kentucky, Patsy Thomas of Livingston, Kentucky, Sharon Wagner and husband Edward of Livingston, Kentucky, Donna Robbins and husband Randall of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky and Barbara Durham of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky; A special niece: Melissa Cain of Louisville, Kentucky; A special nephew: Thomas Carpenter of Louisville, Kentucky and a host of nieces, nephews friends and neighbors.
Besides his parents, Gene is preceded in death by two brothers: Gary Sturgill and Billy Wagers.
Funeral services for Mr. Gene Sturgill will be conducted on Saturday April 23, 2011 at 2 PM at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals with Bro. Luther Allen officiating. Burial will follow in the Kirby Cemetery on Sand Hill.
Visitation for Mr. Gene Sturgill will be on Friday April 22, 2011 from 6-9 PM at the Marvin E Owens Home for Funerals.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Kirby Cemetery at Calloway.
