Mrs. Shelby Cash Abney, age 71, of Brodhead, Kentucky passed away on Wednesday, May 18, 2011 at the Rockcastle Regional Hospital.
Shelby entered into this life on August 29, 1939 in Brodhead, Kentucky, the daughter of Arch and Artie Payne Cash, both of whom preceded her in death. She was united in marriage to Gordon Abney, and they shared a wonderful life together. Shelby retired after 28 years of dedicated service from Dresser Industries in Berea, where she worked as a Packer on the Assembly Line. She was a member of the Brodhead Baptist Church and will be remembered for her love of reading, playing cards and collecting dolls and fenton glass, and her beloved cat Tipper.
Shelby will be lovingly remembered by her husband: Gordon Abney of Brodhead, Kentucky; three children: Libby Ramsey of Brodhead, Kentucky, Dwayne Ramsey and his wife Traci of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky and Patsy Ramsey of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky; two grandchildren: Jamie Lear and her husband Jason of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky and Philip McFerron of Climax, Kentucky; four brothers: Eddie Cash and his wife Mary Nevel of Brodhead, Kentucky, Vernon Cash of Brodhead, Kentucky, Walter Lee Cash and his wife Christeen of Brodhead, Kentucky, and Paul Ray Cash and his wife Judy of Trenton, Ohio; two sisters: Viola “Sissy” Houston of Brodhead, Kentucky, and Ethylene Cash of Brodhead, Kentucky; her sisters in law: Jean Cash of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky and Julie Abney of Berea, Kentucky; her brother in law: Charles Abney of Georgetown, Kentucky; her mother in law: Fern Abney of Berea, Kentucky; and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
She is preceded in death by her parents: Arch and Artie Payne Cash; her brother Lloyd Cash; three sisters: Anna Elizabeth Cash, Preda Shepherd and Melberta Cash Robbins; and her brother in law: Jim Houston
Funeral services for Mrs. Shelby Abney will be conducted on Saturday, May 21, 2011 at 1pm at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals with Bro. Ralph Baker officiating. Interment will follow in the Piney Grove Cemetery.
Visitation for Mrs. Shelby Abney will be held on Friday, May 20, 2011 from 6-9pm at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals.
