Mrs. Pauline Pennington Mullins Eaton, age 86, widow of John Gilbert Eaton, Sr., passed away on Monday, May 30, 2011 at the Rockcastle Regional Hospital.
Pauline was born November 18, 1924 at Withers (Mullins Station) in Rockcastle County, Kentucky. She was the daughter of Estill Logan and Grace Dott Bullock Mullins. Pauline attended school at the J.R. Mullins School at Mullins Station and graduated from the Livingston High School in 1941. She received her BS and MA degrees from Eastern Kentucky State Teachers College (Now, Eastern Kentucky University). She also attended the University of Kentucky, where she majored in Speech Correction. Pauline began her teaching career at J.R. Mullins School and later taught at Lone Oak (Thad Drew), Livingston (third grade), Livingston High School and also worked at a Guidance Counselor at McCreary County High School. She then returned to Rockcastle County as the first Speech Correctionist in the county and was a teacher of speech for several years. Pauline dedicated 39 total years to teaching, which she enjoyed tremendously. She was also a bookkeeper for her husband and sons at Central Body Service and Bee Garbage, as well as, a homemaker.
Pauline was a member of the Pine Hill Missionary Baptist Church, Kentucky Retired Teachers Association, National Education Association of Kentucky and the Daughters of the American Revolution. She will be remembered for her love of genealogy and reading.
She is survived by two stepsons: John Eaton, Jr. (Linda) and David Eaton, Sr. (Millie); grandsons: John Eaton III (Lori) of Mt. Vernon, KY, David Eaton, Jr. (Beth) and Mark Eaton (Elizabeth) of Mt. Vernon, KY. Granddaughters: Angela Eaton of Lexington, KY; Julie Coulter (Kevin) of Edmondton, KY; Maria Weaver (Jason) of Mt. Vernon, KY and Angela Todd Eaton (widow of Shannon) of Science Hill, KY; Great grandchildren: Lorena Grace, John IV, Jesse, Thomas, Timothy and Samuel Eaton, Hannah, Abigail, Jonah and Jordan Eaton, Caleb, Isaac, Joshua and Nathan Eaton, Scarlett Eaton, Samson and Olivia Weaver, Benny, Will Morgan and Jackson Coulter; several cousins and a host of friends and former students, all of whom she loved dearly.
She is preceded in death by her husband: John G. Eaton, Sr.; her parents: Estill and Grace Mullins; one brother: Julian Everett Mullins; one grandson: Shannon Eaton and her infant great - grandson.
Funeral services for Mrs. Pauline Eaton will be conducted on Friday, June 3, 2011 at 1pm at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals with Bro. Mark Eaton officiating. Interment will follow in the Elmwood Cemetery.
Visitation for Mrs. Pauline Eaton will be held on Thursday, June 2, 2011 from 6-9pm at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Heart Association or the Central Baptist Christian Academy.
