Mrs. Hazel Ruthella Whitaker, age 85 of Brodhead, Kentucky passed away Sunday July 17, 2011 at Kenwood Richmond Health and Rehabilitation Center in Richmond, Kentucky.
Hazel was born in Mt. Vernon, Kentucky on May 8, 1926, a daughter of the late Thomas Greene and Annie Mae Barnett Roberts. On October 13, 1941 she was united in marriage to Samuel Lewis Whitaker and from that union came five wonderful children. She was a member of Union Chapel Holiness Church, a loving and caring woman, a homemaker, and enjoyed gardening, quilting, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren.
Hazel is survived by five children: Samuel Lewis Whitaker, Jr. of Somerset, Kentucky, Carolyn Sue Evans (Harold) of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky, Louise Weathers (David) of Brodhead, Kentucky, Gary Whitaker (Louetta) of Nicholasville, Kentucky, Larry Ray Whitaker of Nicholasville, Kentucky; Eight grandchildren: Ricky Lee Evans, Kristy Rountree (Johnny), Trish Carpenter, Shannon Vaugn, Tammy Whitaker, Michael Whitaker, Larry Ray Whitaker Jr., Craig Allen Whitaker (Rita) and Johnathan Whitaker; Twenty great grandchildren; Two great-great grandchildren; One brother: Rob Roberts (Una) of Mt. Vernon, Kentucky; Three sisters: Bertha Southerland of Hamilton, Ohio, Edith Lunsford of Brodhead, Kentucky and Ada Roberts of Brodhead, Kentucky, and a host of nieces, nephews, friends and neighbors.
Besides her parents, Hazel is preceded in death by her husband: Samuel Lewis Whitaker; Four brothers: Bill Roberts, Ernest Roberts, Cecil Roberts and Wayne Roberts; and one sister: Juanita Lunsford.
Visitation for Mrs. Hazel Whitaker will be held on Tuesday July 19, 2011 from 6-9 PM at the Marvin E. Owens Home for Funerals.
Funeral services for Mrs. Hazel Whitaker will be conducted on Wednesday July 20, 2011 at 2 PM at Union Chapel Pentecostal Church with Bro. Ralph Reynolds and Dakota Molina officiating. Interment will follow in the Oak Hill Cemetery.
Casket bearers are: Shannon Vaugn, Craig Allen, Larry Ray Whitaker, Jr., Johnathan Whitaker, Johnny Rountree and Donnie Lunsford. Honorary casket bearers are: John Rhodus, Dalton Rhodus and Dakota Molina.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to Union Chapel Pentecostal Church or the American Cancer Society.
