Clearthur “Jive Man” Shouse, 64, Louisville, died Wednesday, February 16, 2005 after an illness. He was a native of Shelby County and the son of the late Mary Eliza Harris and Jesse Shouse, Sr.
He attended Lincoln Institute, where he was active in the football and basketball programs. He was a bricklayer and worked for Oscar Hays in Crestwood for many years. He remained an avid sports fan throughout his lifetime, particularly for football and basketball. He helped coached both football and basketball at LaGrange Elementary when his sons were young. He was a devoted member of the Mt. Nebo Baptist Church, where he served as Men’s Day Chairperson.
Survivors include three daughters, Rev. Tina H. Findley and Stephanie Smith, both of Louisville and Valerie R. Shouse of Bardstown; six sons, Rev. Lonnie L. Hardin, Sr. of New Castle, Maurice T. Hardin of Jeffersonville, IN, Bryain D. Hardin, Tao Parker and Michael Allen, all of Louisville and Sidney C. Shouse of Bardstown; his devoted companion, Ann Johnson of Louisville; four sisters, Clara Lee Wilson and Ole Bell Marshall, both of Shelbyville, Mary Johnson of Bagdad and Willie Mae Shouse of Louisville; two brothers, John W. Shouse of Taylorsville and Leo “Pete” Shouse of Shelbyville; one uncle, Robert Lee Harris of Louisville; one aunt, Nannie Maddox of Shelbyville; 21 grandchildren; four great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Rev. Ben Williams will deliver the eulogy at the funeral services on Saturday.
