Ben A. Childs, Jr., 55, Louisville, passed away on Friday, November 24, 2006 at his home. A native of Shelbyville, he was the son of Anna Lee Thomas Childs of Louisville and the late Ben A. Childs, Sr. He was a graduate of Shelby County High School, where he was a member of the track team and played basketball. He attended Kentucky State University in Frankfort for two years, where he played basketball. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corps and served during the Vietnam War. He was a maintenance worker at the City of Frankfort Recycling Center until his early retirement for health reasons. In his leisure time, he enjoyed card games and bingo with his friends at the community where he lived. He was a lifetime member of the Clay Street Baptist Church, where, as a youngster, he participated in the Children’s Choir. In his later years, he enjoyed his Men’s Sunday School Class.
Survivors, in addition to his mother, include two sons, Ben Andrew Childs III and Bradley Andrew Childs, both of Frankfort; two sisters, Carol A. Childs of Henderson, NC and JoAnn (Vincent, Sr.) James of Prospect; three brothers, David Lee (Bonnie) Childs of Frankfort, William Douglas “Doug” Childs of Louisville and Wayne Scott Wooten of Taylorsville; three grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Rev. Ronald L. Holder will deliver the eulogy at the funeral services on Monday. Serving as active pallbearers will be Tylanda Morgan, Donnie Moore, James Baker, Ray Moore, Max Thomas and John Willey Morgan. Honorary pallbearers will be Ronnie Baker and Larry Thomas.
