Martha “Moma Toes” Blackburn Dale, 76, Shelbyville, passed away Sunday, February 22, 2009 at her home following an extended illness. A native of Bagdad, she was the daughter of the late Rachel and Eugene Blackburn, Sr. She was the widow of Charles B. Dale.
She was a nursing assistant technician for the Kentucky State Training Home in Frankfort and later for Central State Hospital in Louisville. She was a member of Club 13, and in her leisure time, she enjoyed knitting and crocheting. She was a devoted mother and grandmother. She was a member of Clay Street Baptist Church.
In addition to her husband, two brothers, Trix Blackburn and Due Blackburn, and two sisters, Mary Catherine Hicks and Ethelyne Johnson, preceded her in death.
Survivors include two daughters, Marla Dale (Greg) Hunter and Jeanne Laverne Dale; two sons, Arnold Wayne Dale and Alvin Maurice Dale, all of Shelbyville; two stepsons, Archie L. Dale, Sr. of Louisville and Charles Ervin Dale, Jr. of Frankfort; three sisters, Lear Ann Moore of Shelbyville, Dorothy Watson of Smithfield and Verna Mae Mayes of Louisville; three brothers, Eugene Blackburn, Jr. of Shelbyville, John Blackburn of Indianapolis, IN and Kenneth Blackburn of Memphis, TN; 23 grandchildren; 43 great-grandchildren and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. on Thursday, February 26, 2009 at Clay Street Baptist Church with visitation at the church at 6-9 p.m. on Wednesday. Rev. Ronald L. Holder will deliver the eulogy. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Shelbyville.
