Mamie Dale O’Banion, 90, Shelbyville, died Tuesday, March 3, 2009 at Masonic Home of Louisville following an illness. She was a native of Shelbyville and the daughter of the late Alma Butler and Cornelius Dale. She was the widow of Silas O’Banion, Jr. She attended Kentucky State University for two years. She then became a caterer, operating a home-based business for many years prior to her retirement. She was a life-long member of Clay Street Baptist Church, where she served as a faithful Sunday School teacher and a member of the Missionary Society and the Education Society.
In addition to her husband and parents, one sister, Helen Dale Jackson, preceded her in death.
Survivors include her daughter, Alma DeGraffenreid of Louisville; one brother, Lyman R. Dale of Frankfort; three grandchildren, Victoria Green (Ron) of Louisville, Phyllis Bell (Chris) of Dallas, TX and Charles Hurt (Jamel) of Savannah, GA; six great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Clay Street Baptist Church with visitation 6-9 p.m. on Friday at the church. Rev. Ronald L. Holder will deliver the eulogy.
