Leslie Spradlin (Poppy) Burgess Sr., 58, husband of Kathy Cochran Burgess, passed away Friday, June 4, 2010 at U.K. Medical Center in Lexington. He was born in Scott County, KY on July 4, 1951 to the late Warren Scott and Katherine Sallee Burgess Sr.

He was a member of the Pentecostal Church of God Victory Tabernacle, in Georgetown. Before becoming disabled in 1982 he was a homebuilder and mason contractor.

Along with his wife he is survived by his son; Leslie (Butch) Burgess II (Kendra) of Georgetown, daughter; Ginger King McKinney (Jeff) of Winchester, KY, grandchildren; Justin & Jordan Sharp, Courtney & Kalyn Campbell, Darian & Dylan Webb, Josie Johnson, great grandchildren, Razor Sharp & Kendrick Messina. He is also survived by his brothers; Warren Burgess Jr. (Marilyn), James Burgess (Dorothy), Bennie Burgess (Joyce), sisters; Stella Cook (Norvelle), Lillie McKinney, all of Georgetown, a very special sister-in-law, Iva Jones, and many nieces & nephews that loved him very much. He helped raise Mike Cochran, Elizabeth (Sissy) Johnson, Ricky & Billy Cochran, both who preceded him in death, like they were his own children. He was also preceded in death by a sister and brother in law; Dorothy and Jack Rogers. Leslie was known and loved by all that called him Poppy.

Funeral Services will be 2 P.M. Wednesday, June 9, 2010 at Tucker, Yocum & Wilson Funeral Home with Rev. Connie Jackson and Rev. Jeff Farmer officiating. Burial will be in Georgetown Cemetery with pallbearers being; Steve White, Jimmy White, Jeff Cook, Mike Cochran, James Burgess Jr. & Scottie Burgess. Honorary Bearers will be Justin Lee Sharp, Jordan Leslie Sharp, J. Dylan Webb & Frankie Hambrick. Visitation will be from 11 to 2 on Wednesday at the funeral home.
