Athalene May Florence, 89, passed away Sunday, July 18, 2010 at Green Meadows Health Care Center in Mt. Washington. She was a native of Scott County and lived most of her life in Scott County.

She was a member of Georgetown Baptist Church, the Priscilla Sunday School class, the Ladies Auxiliary at Georgetown Hospital and the Springs Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

She is survived by a daughter, Linda Kay Florence of Fairhope, Ala.; a son, Steven Clifton Florence (Adonna) of Mt. Washington; two sisters, Dorothy Hudson (Hugh) of Frankfort and Mynette Chapman (Melvin) of Albany, Ga; a brother, Dr. John Reed of Georgetown; four grandchildren, Dwight and William (Cindy) Pumphrey of Finchville and Cliff and Jenna Florence of Mt. Washington; and five great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, C.C. “Hob” Florence, after 53 years of marriage; and her parents, Frank May and Bertha Kemper Reed; and a brother, Ralph May.

Funeral services will be 2:30 p.m. Wednesday at Georgetown Baptist Church with burial in Georgetown Cemetery. Visitation will begin at 11 a.m. at the church.
